End of march update

Some general announcements, plus more information on sculling for members

  • Regional Championship sign up. The googledoc for race signups now includes Regionals. The deadline to sign up is May 10.
  • Opening Day—we should find out by the end of the week which boat(s) are invited to Opening Day, May 7, in Seattle.
  • Sculling The club is working to add resources to our sculling program. Penny Luong is the Sculling Captain, and she can answer many questions.   A few common questions are answered below:
  • L4 sculling meets on M and TH. To attend, you must pass the Captains test in the 1x.
  • L3 sculling meets on F and Sun. To attend, you must pass the Captains test in the 2x/4x.
  • Penny has the list of who has passed each level. To take a captains test, contact Penny, Brad or Peter.
  • With the river temperature still at 49F., independent use of club sculling equipment is still not allowed. Scull only at coached practice times.
  • Clinics. Our first series of sculling clinics filled quickly. We have planned an additional clinic and will offer more throughout the year.
  • Introduction to Sculling. For members who want more intensive coaching while working toward their L3 captains test, enroll in our Introduction to Sculling class.  This 5 lesson class is limited to 6 participants and is focused on rowing in 4x’s and 2x’s.  The first sessions will be on Thursday evenings beginning April 7. Registration will open on Thursday March 31.
  • More Practice for L3 Captain’s test. For more chances to get practice time in sculling boats, you can request to scull at Saturday open rowing sessions. Same for the Friday 7am summer open rowing sessions.  Just talk to the coach when you arrive.
