Station L is hosting the inaugural Willamette River marathon, spanning two nights of camping and two days of rowing from Friday August 11 to Sunday August 13th. Camping on Friday and Saturday nights will be at riverside group campsites at Champoeg State Park about thirty miles south of Portland. The rowing will start early Saturday at Wheatland Ferry (just north of Salem) and finish mid-day Sunday at Bernert Landing, West Linn. The 44 river miles, all downstream, will be covered as 27 miles on Saturday, and 17 miles on Sunday.
We anticipate a participation cost of less than $150, which will include a classy commemorative T-shirt, meals from dinner Friday through lunch on Sunday, camping fees, van rentals and launch support. Discounts are available to folks who volunteer on one of the two days. We also welcome non-rowing friends and family. A deeply reduced rate will be made available for them, covering only food and camping, and we may be able to waive that fee in exchange for their volunteer efforts (should they wish to participate in that way).
A sign-up sheet has been created at the Regatta sign-up Google doc. The things we need to know from you are:
• Are you really this crazy? (sign up if you are)
• Your rowing preferences (sweep side/sculling/non-rower)
• Interest in volunteering for one of the two days, in exchange for a discount.
• Dietary restrictions.
Because of the logistics for planning this amazing and first-in-a-lifetime event, the deadline for enrollment will be July 1st on the Google doc. There is only room for 38 rowers, so please don’t find yourself sitting on the shore regretting your life decisions!
